Borrowing & HOLDS:

Pacific Grove Library cards are free and can be issued online or in person. To learn more about the application process, click here.

Most materials can be checked out for three weeks and may be renewed three times if there is no waiting list for them. DVDs can be checked out for two weeks, and art prints can be checked out for 120 days. Fines are charged for overdue materials (see below for fine schedule).

Fines & Fees:

  • Adult items: $.50 per day Maximum fine - $10.00 or cost of item.
  • Children's items: $.25 per day. Maximum fine - $5.00 or cost of item.
  • Lost library cards: $3.00
  • Lost library materials: Replacement cost of the item.


The book collection of approximately 54,000 volumes includes more than 19,000 books for children and young adults and 3,000 large-type books.  Hundreds of thousands of eBooks and audiobooks are available to download. Books are available in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Korean, Russian and other languages.

The library has extensive collections of audiobooks, and DVDs, as well as audiobooks, videos, and music available for download. Magazines and newspapers, including most Pacific Grove newspapers from 1988 to date on microfilm, framed art prints, and maps are also available to borrow or use in the Library.
